Get Logistics out of the Conversation...

If you want more intimacy in your relationship, consider spending more time face to face talking about things OTHER THAN the logistics of your lives. But keeping logistics out of couples' conversations is hard. Remember that every relationship is unique, and finding the right balance between logistical discussions and emotional connection is essential. Communication is key, so regularly check in with each other to ensure that both partners feel heard, understood, and emotionally connected.

Here’s why this is an effort worth putting in and suggestions for how to do it:

  • Constantly discussing logistics such as chores, schedules, or responsibilities during every conversation can shift the focus away from emotional connection.

  • Logistics do not inspire emotional connection. Over relying on these kinds of conversation to provide relationship intimacy will ultimately leave you feeling like connection is taxing.

  • Couples may experience stress and overwhelm when logistical issues dominate their conversations, in addition to feeling like their relationship is transactional and business-like.

  • Designating specific time to check in about logistics and having a shared calendar can ease the stress of feeling like the rest of your time together needs to be utilized for this kind of communication.

  • Knowing there are strategies in place to address the logistics of your lives and families can give you the confidence and freedom to lean into conversations that truly matter to you.
